What is the NuGraf Rendering System? Currently in itÆs 10th year of continuous development, NuGraf is an integrated suite of robust tools for importing 3D scenes from virtually any 3D modeling or animation package and turning them into photo-realistic rendered images; once imported the geometry can be optimized, materials assigned, lights & camera locations set and texture maps applied. A final photo-realistic image can be produced quickly using the high speed scanline or multi-threaded ray tracing renderers. NuGraf contains all the functionality of OkinoÆs PolyTrans and can therefore act as a high quality data conversion and viewing program. The program won the prestigious IEEE Excellence Award for 1997 and was also chosen one of the top-10 products for 1996 by IEEE CG&A Magazine, Jan/Feb 1997 issue. Our users agree that NuGraf is the most productive and efficient 3D image creation and data translation program available today. NuGraf is available for Windows NT/95.

NuGraf is unique in its ability to import 3D Studio® , Lightwave® , Pro/Engineer® .slp, Quickdraw-3D® , SoftImage® , Strata® StudioPro® and trueSpace® files (among others) and render them just as they would appear in their native programs, complete with all texture maps, lights and cameras! Just import the file and press "render"!

Who uses NuGraf? Typical users of the software include:

  • Engineers, architects, CAD/CAM users, or mechanical and industrial designers who require fast and robust visualization of complex 3D files, or for performing data translation of 3D files, exported from such favorite design packages as AutoCAD® , CATIA® , DataCAD® , DesignCAD® , Pro/Engineer® , SolidWorks® or any solid modeling package based upon ACIS® such as Bravo!® , Vellum® , AutoCAD® , CADKEY® , CorelCAD® , Electric Image® , Microstation® Modeler, Solid Edge® or triSpectives® .
  • Interior designers and furniture manufactures who require a versatile visualization environment
  • Medical visualization specialists who require the ability to import and photo-realistically render 3D data from a variety of input data sources.
  • Game developers for use in scene creation and 3D data translation, or in general any 3D computer graphics user who requires highly accurate 3D model translation.
  • GIS users who require the ability to import and interactively manipulate huge (1:1) USGS DEM data sets.
  • Teachers and professors who would like to teach the concepts of 3D graphics and rendering to their students.
  • Please visit http://www.okino.com/conv/users.htm for a list of notable NuGraf users.

What is PolyTrans? PolyTrans is the premiere 3D model translation and data processing tool that allows entire 3D scenes (including bitmaps) to be cross converted between the most popular 3D file formats with great accuracy and quality. Supported platforms include Microsoft Windows NT/95 and SGI UNIX; the Microsoft Windows versions includes a full graphical user interface whereas the SGI version uses a command-line interface. PolyTrans also works well on the Apple Macintosh using a Windows emulator and on the DEC Alpha using FX/32. PolyTrans is used by such notable companies as Acuris, ATI, Disney, DPS, Dreamworks Interactive, HP, Hughes, Intel, JPL, LEGO, MIT, PIXAR, Sony, Westwood Studios and all major 3D game development companies such as Acclaim Entertainment, Broderbund, Electronic Arts, Interplay, LucasArts, Namco, Sierra Online, Virgin Interactive, Williams/Bally/Midway and many others (please visit http://www.okino.com/conv/users.htm for a longer list of notable NuGraf/PolyTrans users).

Why do I need PolyTrans? Using PolyTrans you will never again have to spend hours hand-tweaking a translated model since PolyTrans converts every aspect of a 3D model, including all shading parameters, texture mapping coordinates and texture map information. Scenes and objects translated with PolyTrans are render ready allowing them to be loaded into programs such as 3D Studio® , DirectX® , Lightscape® , Lightwave® , Quickdraw-3D® , SoftImage® , trueSpace® , PIXARÆs Renderman® or any VRML 1.0/2.0-compliant browser for immediate photo-realistic rendering. In addition, the Microsoft Windows version of PolyTrans includes an interactive graphical user interface that allows objects to be manipulated, lights to be placed in a scene and the camera to be interactively moved.

How does PolyTrans differ from other 3D data translators? PolyTrans is unique as a 3D data

translator since it is internally based on the same 3D rendering, database manipulation and geometric primitive processing code that is used in OkinoÆs high-end 3D rendering product called the NuGraf Rendering System. By sharing this code PolyTrans has the ability to convert all aspects of a 3D model file; this includes geometry (meshed polygons with recursive holes, trimmed NURBS, bicubic patches and quadrics), object hierarchy, pivot points, smoothing data (vertex normals), (u,v) texture coordinates, bump mapping information (U/V tangent vectors), lights, cameras and all texture projection methods. In addition, PolyTrans accurately matches the color, shading and texture mapping parameters between the input and output file formats resulting in models that will render faithfully in the target rendering program. PolyTrans is also unique in its ability to cross-convert animation data among various 3D animation packages û a feat that many customers have thought to be an impossible task, until now!

Where can I purchase PolyTrans? PolyTrans can be ordered directly from Okino Computer Graphics by calling our toll-free order line at 1-888-3D-OKINO (1-888-336-5466). Pricing is $395 (Intel Windows) and $495 for the SGI version. The IGES, SAT and SoftImage modules are optional add-on converters (SAT only available on Intel platform). All versions come with ╛" printed manuals and a CDROM containing 3D models and textures. Payment methods include VISA (preferred), Mastercard, American Express, wire transfer and money order.

Which product should I purchase? If you would like to render photo-realistic images of your imported models then it is recommended that you purchase OkinoÆs NuGraf Rendering System rather than PolyTrans since NuGraf has many additional features; these include fast 3D rendering of large scene files, complete material editing capabilities, the ability to assign materials at the polygon level and a 3D extruded font generator. Please note that NuGraf contains all of the functionality and features of PolyTrans.
